Beyond the skin

A more technological world is shining new light on the body’s role for what it means to be human. We exist beyond our bodies but at the same time the body is more central than ever. Our embodied existence and its relation to our identity as humans fascinate me. It is as if there is a glitch between our physical abilities and our dreams and fantasies of what we could have been; as if we see ourselves as a loss of potential. In my work I investigate stages of transformation between body and ornament. I see the act of adorning the body as an act of desire. We modify the original condition of our bodies in order to enhance or alter ourselves into a desired state of being. With my work I want to create stages of transformation by using our understanding for the embodied and materiality.

Beyond the skin
